SOLAR ECLIPSE EVENT AT THE KENILWORTH PUBLIC LIBRARY

April 8 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Children ages 5 and up, teens and adults are welcome to join us in the library’s parking lot to safely view the solar eclipse.

A pair of solar glasses will be distributed in groups while supplies last.

Although New Jersey won’t be in the path of totality, about 90% of the sun will be blocked by the moon for more than an hour in the late afternoon on April 8, at about 3:25 pm.

When watching a solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.  Always inspect your eclipse glasses before use; if torn, scratched, or
otherwise damaged, discard the device. Always supervise children using solar viewers. Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury.
